Can You Have More Than One True Love?

For much of our lives, we’re told there’s just one true love waiting for us somewhere out in the world. One soulmate. One perfect match. One person who makes us feel whole.

But what happens when that love ends? What do you do when a marriage ends in divorce, a partner passes away, or a relationship that once felt like forever becomes a memory from your past?

What do you do when a marriage ends in divorce, a partner passes away, or a relationship that once felt like forever becomes a memory from your past?

Does that mean your chance at true love is over?

I don’t think so. In fact, I believe many of us experience more than one true love in a lifetime.

Honestly, I believe many of us experience more than one true love in a lifetime.

That doesn’t take away from what we felt before, or make those memories any less meaningful. It just means our hearts can love deeply, more than once.

Love Changes as We Change

The person you were at 25 probably isn’t the same person you are at 45 or 55.

Your priorities change. Your experiences mold you. Your values evolve. The things you need from a relationship may look completely different than they once did.

The love that fit you in one chapter of life might not be the love that fits you in the next.

That doesn’t mean either love was wrong. It just means you grew.

It just means you grew.

Different Loves Serve Different Purposes

Some people come into our lives to teach us.

Some help us build families.

Some help us heal.

Some challenge us to become stronger versions of ourselves.

Looking back, I can see that each relationship brought something unique into my life. Not every love was meant to last forever, but each one left a mark.

Sometimes true love is the person who was by your side as you created a life together.

Sometimes it's the person who helps you rediscover yourself after you've lost your way.

Both can be real.

Both can be meaningful.

The Guilt of Loving Again

Many divorced people struggle with guilt when they begin to care for someone new.

They wonder if moving forward somehow erases the importance of what came before.

It doesn't.

You can treasure the love you once had and still open your heart again.

Our hearts aren’t limited. Love isn’t a pie with only so many slices to give away.

You don’t have to choose between honoring your past and embracing your future.

You can do both. And maybe, the greatest love you’ll ever have is the one you give yourself.

Maybe the Greatest Love Is Yourself

After a divorce, it’s easy to spend years searching for another relationship.

But what if, after everything, you discover one of your true loves is actually you?

The version of yourself who survived heartbreak.

The version who rebuilt a life from the ground up.

The version that learned how to be alone and discovered that being alone doesn't mean being lonely.

Learning to love yourself again might just be one of the most important relationships you’ll ever have.

And it becomes the foundation for every healthy relationship that follows.

So, can you have more than one true love?

I honestly believe the answer is yes.

You may have a first love.

A forever love.

A healing love.

A second-chance love.

And perhaps several people who touch your heart deeply throughout your lifetime.

Love isn't a one-time opportunity.

It's a series of experiences that help shape who we are.

The beautiful thing about life is that our story doesn’t end just because one chapter closes.

Sometimes the next chapter introduces a different kind of love—one that's exactly what we need when we least expect it.

And maybe that’s what true love really is: someone who meets you where you are, loves you for who you’ve become, and cheers you on as you keep growing into who you’re meant to be.
