- Navigating Co-Parenting and the Reality of Kids Growing Up Too Fast
As a parent, one of the most rewarding yet challenging experiences can be co-parenting and witnessing the rapid growth of your children. While co-parenting comes with its inherent complexities, trying to maintain balance and unity for the children's sake is a journey worth embarking upon. However, no matter how unified co-parenting efforts may be, one universal truth remains: kids grow up way too fast. As I embark on two of my children graduating from high school this week, the reality has set in...here we go! Co-parenting involves collaborating and coordinating parenting responsibilities between divorced or separated parents. Whether it involves joint custody, shared visitation, or other arrangements, the ultimate goal is to create a stable and nurturing environment for the children. This often requires a great deal of communication, compromise, and putting the needs of the children above personal differences. One of the most poignant aspects of co-parenting is witnessing how quickly children transition through various stages of development. From their first steps to their first day of school, time seems to slip through our fingers like grains of sand. For co-parents, this reality can be bittersweet as they strive to provide consistent love, guidance, and support while grappling with the fleeting nature of their children's childhood. The process of children growing up too fast presents challenges for co-parents. It often feels like a delicate balance between wanting to cherish the present moment and preparing for the future. While it's a joy to see children reach new milestones and discover their unique personalities, it's also a reminder that time is a precious commodity. For co-parents, this underscores the importance of embracing every moment spent with their children, even as they transition between households. Despite the rollercoaster of emotions that co-parents may experience, the journey is not without its silver linings. Co-parenting allows children to experience the love and involvement of both parents, fostering a sense of security and a broader support system. It also allows children to learn valuable life skills, such as adaptability, empathy, and effective communication, as they navigate the nuances of two distinct households. While co-parenting, parents must remember that their children's fleeting childhood is a journey best experienced with compassion, understanding, and a willingness to collaborate. Every decision made and every moment shared holds the potential to shape the lasting memories of a child's upbringing. As co-parents, it's essential to find solace in the fact that the love and guidance we provide greatly influence the way our children perceive the world. While the reality of kids growing up way too fast may tug at our heartstrings, it's a testament to the unique privilege of guiding and nurturing the next generation. In the end, co-parenting and the swift passage of time remind us to cherish the present, embrace the beauty of our children's growth, and relish the honor of being instrumental in shaping their journey into adulthood. Through co-parenting, we not only navigate the challenges of shared responsibility but also bear witness to the profound joy of seeing our children flourish before our eyes, parents, and children. Enjoy every moment and take it all in! xoxo Erin
- Facebook Dating Makes a Comeback
Facebook, one of the largest social media platforms in the world, introduced Facebook Dating in 2019 as a new feature within the app. While the feature had some early setbacks due to privacy concerns and lackluster user experience, it seems to have made a resurgence in recent months. According to data from Sensor Tower, Facebook Dating saw a 328% increase in downloads in the United States during the first half of 2020. This increase might be due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic, as more and more people are turning to online dating in the absence of physical interaction. However, other factors could be contributing to the app's newfound popularity. Firstly, Facebook has been continually updating and improving Facebook Dating since its initial launch. These updates have introduced unique features such as the ability to connect with Instagram accounts and the option for virtual dates. One of the most intriguing features is the 'Secret Crush' feature, which allows users to select up to nine people from their Facebook friends list that they are interested in dating. If that person also adds them to their Secret Crush list, they will both receive a notification that they have a match. Another reason for Facebook Dating's resurgence could be the lack of success of other dating apps. Apps such as Tinder and Bumble have been popular for several years but have seen some criticism recently for being too superficial and promoting a "swipe culture," leading to burnout and dissatisfaction among users. On the other hand, Facebook Dating seems to focus more on relationships and long-term connections than casual hookups. It also boasts a more extensive pool of potential matches since it's connected to users' Facebook networks. Lastly, the seamless integration of Facebook Dating into the main Facebook app is a significant factor in its resurgence. For many, Facebook is already a familiar and trusted platform, and the addition of dating features makes it a convenient and reassuring choice. This integration not only makes it easy for users to access the dating feature but also provides a sense of security for those who may have concerns about the safety of online dating. In conclusion, it seems that Facebook Dating has made a resurgence in recent months due to a combination of factors such as continual updates and improvements, a focus on relationships and long-term connections, and integration into the main Facebook app. It remains to be seen if the app will continue to grow and compete with other online dating apps, but for now, it seems to be gaining momentum. Check it out if you are in the dating scene, you never know what you will find. xoxo Erin

- Life After Divorce: Mistakes to Avoid
Deciding to divorce can be one of the most challenging experiences an individual can face. The emotional toll, the financial implications, and the lifestyle changes can all be overwhelming. As you embark on this new chapter in your life, it's important to be mindful of the common mistakes that people often make after a divorce. 1. Rushing into a new relationship: After a divorce, seeking companionship and validation is natural. However, rushing into a new relationship too soon can be detrimental. Take the time to heal from your previous relationship and focus on self-discovery before jumping into something new. 2. Neglecting self-care: Divorce can significantly affect your mental and physical well-being. It's important to prioritize self-care during this time. Eat well, exercise regularly, get enough sleep, and seek therapy or counseling if needed. 3. Ignoring financial planning: Divorce often leads to significant changes in your financial situation. Review your finances, create a budget, and plan for the future. Consider consulting with a financial advisor to help you navigate this transition. 4. Neglecting your social support system: It's common for people going through a divorce to isolate themselves from friends and family. However, maintaining a solid social support system is crucial for your emotional well-being. Reach out to loved ones for support and surround yourself with positive influences. 5. Holding onto resentment: It's natural to feel anger and resentment towards your ex-partner after a divorce. However, holding onto these negative emotions can prevent you from moving on and finding peace. Practice forgiveness, not for your ex-partner's sake, but for your own healing. 6. Using your children as pawns: If you have children, it's essential to prioritize their well-being during and after the divorce. Avoid using them as leverage against your ex-partner or involving them in adult conflicts. Focus on co-parenting healthily and respectfully. 7. Not seeking professional help: Going through a divorce is a complex and emotionally challenging process. Don't hesitate to seek professional help if you're struggling to cope with the aftermath. Therapy, counseling, or support groups can provide valuable resources and guidance. Remember, making mistakes is a natural part of the healing process. Be compassionate towards yourself and give yourself the time and space to navigate this transition. Being mindful of these common pitfalls can pave the way for a smoother and more fulfilling life after divorce.

These could include exercise, meditation, spending time in nature, or pursuing a hobby. If needed, prioritize your emotional well-being by seeking therapy or counseling. Building a Support System Navigating the ups and downs of post-divorce life can feel isolating, but remember that you are not alone. Use this time to reflect on your values, goals, and priorities. Embrace the lessons learned from your past relationship and carry them forward as you build a happier, healthier future for yourself. - Divorce Trends: What You Need to Know
Divorce is a significant life event that affects millions of people worldwide. Understanding the current trends in divorce can provide valuable insights into the factors influencing marital relationships and the changing dynamics of modern society. Declining divorce rates In recent years, divorce rates have declined in some countries. This trend is attributed to various factors, such as the growing emphasis on marriage counseling, premarital education, and the rise of cohabitation before marriage. Additionally, the delay in marriage and the focus on career and education have also contributed to a decrease in divorce rates among younger couples. The rise of gray divorce While divorce rates among younger couples may be decreasing, there has been a simultaneous increase in divorce among older couples. The phenomenon known as "gray divorce" refers to the growing number of divorces among individuals over 50. Factors contributing to this trend include increased life expectancy, financial independence, and changing societal attitudes towards divorce. Shift towards collaborative divorce. Another notable trend in divorce is the increasing popularity of collaborative divorce instead of traditional litigation. Collaborative divorce involves couples working together, with the assistance of legal and financial professionals, to reach a mutually beneficial agreement. This approach is often viewed as less adversarial, cost-effective, and emotionally taxing for both parties. Impact of technology and social media The pervasive use of technology and social media has significantly impacted divorce trends. Notably, social media has been cited as a contributing factor in many divorces, with issues such as infidelity, privacy concerns, and communication breakdowns arising from online interactions. Conversely, technology also provides platforms for online counseling, support communities, and resources for individuals navigating divorce. Cultural and regional variations It's essential to recognize that divorce trends vary significantly based on cultural, religious, and regional factors. For example, divorce rates may differ between urban and rural areas and across socioeconomic and ethnic groups. Understanding these variations is essential for developing targeted support and intervention strategies. The landscape of divorce is continuously evolving, influenced by a myriad of social, economic, and cultural factors. By remaining informed about these trends, individuals, policymakers, and support professionals can better address the challenges associated with divorce and work towards promoting healthier and more resilient relationships. Remember that seeking professional guidance and support is crucial for anyone navigating the complexities of divorce. If you're facing divorce, consider consulting with legal, financial, and emotional support professionals to help you through this transition. Good Luck out there, Erin
- The Comically Chaotic Journey of Life After Divorce: Embrace the Mistakes!
Divorce is the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new comedy of errors! As we embark on this rollercoaster ride called life after divorce, it's essential to keep a sense of humor and recognize the amusing mistakes we're bound to make. So, grab your popcorn, and let's dive into the comically chaotic world of post-divorce blunders! 1. The "Rebounder" Flub: Ah, the classic mistake of diving headfirst into a rebound relationship. Suddenly, you find yourself strutting around in a Hawaiian shirt, professing your love after just two dates! Remember, taking things slow and letting love unfold naturally is okay. Leave the polyester shirts for the 70s-themed parties, not your desperate attempts at dating. 2. The Misguided Makeover Mishap: Armed with newfound freedom, you might be tempted to reinvent yourself. However, proceed with caution! Going from a conservative corporate look to a full-blown punk-rock style might be too much too soon. Remember, if your mom looks at you and asks if you're going through a midlife crisis, it's probably time to reconsider your choices. 3. The "Insta-Spree" Fiasco: With your newly acquired free time, you might find yourself aimlessly scrolling through Instagram, your finger hovering over the 'buy now' buttons. It's perfectly normal to indulge in a little retail therapy but be careful not to become an accidental online shopaholic. The last thing you need is a collection of "As seen on TV" gadgets cluttering up your living room! 4. The Social Media Snafu: Beware of letting your emotions run wild on social media. Posting cryptic status updates about your ex will not only concern your friends but can also serve as the perfect source of entertainment for your ex's friends. Remember, you're aiming for a comedy show, not an episode of "Real Housewives." 5. The Vibrating Victory...or Not: Embracing your newfound independence might mean exploring a bit in the bedroom. But beware of introducing fancy gadgets without fully understanding their functions. That high-tech gadget might have seemed like a great idea, but accidentally turning an intimate moment into a vibrating frenzy is not exactly the romantic encounter you envisioned. 6. The Cat Lady or Dog Dude Syndrome: Feeling lonely after the divorce, you might be tempted to adopt a furry friend. While this can bring joy and companionship, be cautious not to let your newfound status slide into becoming the neighborhood "crazy cat lady" or "dog dude." Yes, 17 cats might be adorable, but owning that many litter boxes is anything but charming. 7. The Fancy-Free Finances Fiasco: Suddenly, finding yourself completely controlling your finances can be liberating. However, avoid mistaking financial independence for an invitation to splurge uncontrollably. Sure, that brand-new sports car might seem enticing, but it might be wiser to invest in a reliable mode of transportation that won't leave you stranded on the side of the road with a hefty repair bill. Remember, even the most embarrassing and hilariously disastrous moments in life can be the best teachers. So, embrace the mistakes, laugh at the absurdity, and enjoy this new chapter in your life. After all, laughter is the best medicine, even when it comes to healing from a divorce! It’s a crazy journey; however, embrace your mishaps! You have to. Though challenging to do much right after a divorce, what are 3 things you immediately did?
- Parenting Styles + Communication during and after divorce
The way you and your ex-partner approached parenting may have contributed to your divorce, or perhaps now, after the divorce, you've had to make changes to your parenting styles to accommodate your children better. Regardless, parenting in a divorced family is challenging. Recently, my daughter asked me why we had to attend the family divorce class and mentioned writing an article about it for school. This made me realize that I needed to address the topic of divorce with my children, as some time had passed and the initial trauma had eased a bit. In the first year after the divorce, I didn't think too much about it once we established a 2-2-3 schedule that seemed to work for us. I had moved on mentally, knowing that taking things day by day and at a slow pace could provide a new perspective. However, I now realize that my kids may not have had the same perspective. The impact of divorce on the family dynamic is unpredictable. Triggers can bring back the trauma for both you and your children. One thing you can do is strive for consistent messaging with your ex-partner regarding the children. If possible, try to align your parenting approaches and communicate to your kids that even though you and your ex are no longer together, you are still on the same page (though it's rarely easy). My ex and I never discussed our parenting styles before having kids, and it turned out that we had very different approaches. While we are aligned in most situations, there are times when we disagree. We have accepted that we may not resolve these differences completely, but it's still important to occasionally sit down and discuss our disagreements on parenting topics. I suggest making a monthly coffee meeting and creating a list of topics to discuss. Don't hesitate to express your disagreement, such as when your ex took the kids out of school early without consulting you or introduced a new partner without discussing how it may affect the children. Common disagreements among divorced couples include: Not respecting the decisions of the other parent Doing something that may offend your ex-partner Not maintaining a regular schedule Failing to ask for the other's opinion Lack of communication Even though it may not always be easy, strive to address these issues so that everyone is more at ease and better informed. May the parenting force be with you! It's not easy but do what is best for your children. Erin
- Dating Frustrations Post-Divorce
Dating in the modern world can be incredibly frustrating. With the advent of online dating apps, ever-changing societal norms, and the pressures of finding "the one," navigating the dating scene can feel overwhelming and often disheartening experience. From ghosting to mixed signals, there are a myriad of frustrations to contend with when it comes to finding love. One of the most common frustrations that many people encounter in the dating world is the phenomenon of ghosting. Ghosting occurs when someone abruptly ceases all communication with someone they have been dating, leaving the other party confused and rejected. This lack of closure can be deeply frustrating and can lead to feelings of self-doubt and insecurity. In today's digital age, it seems that it has become all too easy for individuals to disappear without explanation, leaving the other person emotionally stranded. Another source of frustration in the modern dating landscape is the prevalence of mixed signals. With so many different methods of communication available, it's not uncommon for individuals to send conflicting messages about their level of interest. Mixed signals can leave the recipient feeling uncertain about where they stand in the relationship, leading to frustration and anxiety about the future of the connection. Moreover, societal pressures and expectations can add a layer of frustration to the dating experience. There is often a sense of urgency to find a partner and settle down, particularly as people reach certain milestones. This pressure can lead to anxiety about being single, which in turn can make the dating process even more stressful and frustrating. Despite these frustrations, it's important to remember that dating should ultimately be an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. While it can be disheartening to encounter setbacks and disappointments in the quest for love, it's essential to maintain a positive outlook and remain open to new connections. Setting boundaries, being honest about what you want, and communicating openly with potential partners can help mitigate some of the dating frustrations. The frustrations of modern dating are a genuine and pervasive issue for many individuals. Finding love in today's world can be daunting, from ghosting to mixed signals. However, by maintaining a positive mindset, setting healthy boundaries, and staying true to oneself, navigating these frustrations and finding meaningful and fulfilling connections is possible. After all, the right person is out there, and the journey to finding them, while frustrating sometimes, can also be enriching. Good Luck out there, Stay Safe! Erin
- Clarity
The importance of being clear about what you want in a relationship must be considered. Building a relationship without understanding your needs and expectations can lead to confusion, misunderstandings, and even heartbreak. When you have a moment or moments of clarity, please write it down, make a list, and go for it. Firstly, knowing what you want in a relationship helps you attract the right partner. When you're aware of your deal-breakers and non-negotiables, you're less likely to settle for someone who doesn't meet your standards and more likely to attract someone compatible with you. When you don't know what you want, you may end up dating someone simply because they're available or because you're afraid to be alone. However, clearly understanding what you're looking for helps you recognize when a particular relationship isn't working and move on. So, how can you achieve clarity in your relationship goals? Here are a few tips: 1. Reflect on your past relationships. Think about your previous relationships. What did you like and dislike? What patterns did you notice? Use this insight to figure out what you want in your next relationship. 2. Make specific lists - Write down what you want in a partner and be specific. Don't just list physical attributes but also personality traits, values, and interests. 3. Communicate with those close to you - Talk to trusted friends and family about what you want in a relationship. They may have insights that you still need to consider. 4. Take your time - Rushing into a relationship without understanding what you want can lead to disappointment. Take time to figure out what you're looking for, and make sure to settle for more. 5. Identify your core values - Determine your core values and priorities in life. Finding someone who aligns with your values is important, as shared values can provide a strong foundation for a successful and lasting relationship. 6. Reflect on your personal goals—Consider your individual goals and aspirations, both short-term and long-term. Think about how a potential partner can support you in achieving these goals. Clarity about your ambitions can help you find someone who will complement and support your journey. 7. Understand your emotional needs - Reflect on your emotional needs in a relationship. For example, do you value open communication, affection, or quality time? Understanding your emotional needs will enable you to communicate them effectively to your partner and ensure they are met. 8. Strive for self-awareness - Develop self-awareness by exploring your strengths, weaknesses, and past relationship patterns. This can help you identify any patterns or behaviors hindering your ability to find a healthy and fulfilling relationship. 9. Don't settle for less - In pursuing clarity, it is essential not to settle for someone who does not meet your needs or compromises your values and well-being. It can be tempting to compromise or lower your standards, but staying true to yourself and what you want in a relationship is important. 10. Be open to growth and flexibility—While clarity about your wants and needs is essential, it is also important to remain open to personal growth and change. Relationships require compromise and the ability to adapt. Be willing to reassess and adjust your expectations as you learn and grow with your partner. Remember, achieving clarity in what you want in a relationship is an ongoing process. It's natural to evolve and refine your desires as you gain more experience and explore different relationships. Embrace the journey and trust that with clarity, patience, and self-awareness, you can find a relationship that aligns with your values and brings you happiness and fulfillment. Do you have clarity?
